FANTASTIC TEAM DISPLAY AS BARKINGSIDE WIN 2-0 AWAY TO ENFIELD 1893
22 Feb 2012

Luke With 1
Jordan Tolan 1

Saturday’s defeat at home to Bowers & Pitsea was unexpected, but to be fair to Bowers they defended well.

With a midweek game away to Enfield 1893 who were 3rd in the league table most supporters and ground hoppers were expecting another defeat.

Manager Matt Frew and his management assistants Mitch Frew and John Langton had other ideas and prepared the lads before the game very well.

Everybody player knew they had to improve on their own playing performance and from the kick off they gave Enfield a game they will remember.

Barkingside played some excellent football and were on top of the game from the start and never allowed Enfield to settle.

When Barkingside did loose the ball everybody hassled the Enfield players into mistake after mistake and Barkingside should have been a few goals up at the interval but as Half time came it was still 0-0.

In the second half Barkingside continued to dominate the game and Wayne Martin was rarely troubled and Barkingside defended so well.

Luke With the 6ft 7 inch striker gave Enfield lots of problems as he broke through Enfield’s defence all the time.

On 61 minutes he got his reward when a brilliant run by Kwasi Marfo beat 2 defenders and he crossed the ball for Luke With to score giving Barkingside a 1-0 lead.

Barkingside continued to play attacking football but were unable to increase their score.

On 80 minutes Kwasi Marfo was replaced by Adam Major who with fresh legs gave Enfield more problems.

On 86 minutes Adam Major shot from outside the box and his shot was deflected by a defender and looked like he was going to score as the keeper was stranded but unfortunately the shot hit the post.

Enfield made a last few minutes push trying to get a equaliser and lie so often in the past Barkingside have conceded to late goals.

This time it was Barkingside who scored a late goal as on 90 minutes Jordan Tolan was found unmarked and went one on one with the keeper and he made no mistake as his shot beat the keeper to give Barkingside a 2-0 win which was thoroughly deserved.

Their was some good individual performances and especially from Keven Baker who controlled the game in midfield with his non stop talking and tough tackling and his ability to pass the ball intelligently and accurately.

But in my opinion the man of the match was Kwasi Marfo who ran non stop and dribbled the ball past lots of players throughout the game and set up Barkingside’s 1st goal with a killer pass that cut open Enfield’s tight defence.
